Project Overview (Introduction):
After nine months of persistent effort, a group of mothers in Kaliti sub-city’s Koye area officially launched their multi-product store. The journey from obtaining a free premise to securing utilities and legal registration as business owners was filled with challenges, yet the determination of the mothers and N4ED’s dedicated team made it possible. The store will offer injera, bread, condiments, and vegetables, with future plans to serve hot meals, coffee, and tea. Its strategic location between condominium apartments and near a large factory positions the business for strong community demand and growth.
Objectives / Goals:
Support mothers in establishing a sustainable income-generating business.
Promote economic empowerment through legal business ownership and skill development.
Provide access to affordable, locally made food products for the surrounding community.
Target Audience / Beneficiaries:
Mothers in Kaliti – Koye area, particularly mothers engaged in N4ED’s livelihood support programs, as well as the local community who will benefit from the products and services offered.
Methodology / Approach:
The project involved securing a free business premise, installing essential utilities such as electricity and water, and completing all necessary legal documentation for business registration. N4ED supported the mothers in setting up the store, equipping it for the sale of multiple products, and developing future service plans. The process emphasized resilience, problem-solving, and teamwork over a nine-month preparation period.
Impact / Expected Outcomes:
Creation of a steady and diversified income stream for participating mothers.
Increased access to fresh, affordable food for the local community.
Strengthened entrepreneurial skills and independence among women.
A community hub that could expand into food service and hospitality in the near future.
