Project Overview and Objectives
Launched in June 2017 with 100% volunteer support, this 3-year community-based project aimed to improve child care and maternal nutrition in Gulele sub-city. It combined nutrition education, economic empowerment, and community leadership to strengthen household well-being.
Target Audience / Beneficiaries
Directly benefited 38 individuals (19 mothers and their newborns); indirectly reached husbands, siblings, and the broader community via a “Nutrition Ambassadors” model.
Methodology / Approach
Mothers received training on nutrition, hygiene, child care, and health practices. The project provided business and life skills training, savings and loan schemes, and counseling. Three mother champions were selected to train peers and promote behavior change.
Impact / Expected Outcomes
Improved household nutrition and income, enhanced maternal practices, and the foundation of a self-sustained Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA).
