N4ED promotes gender equality and works to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) through comprehensive community engagement and educational initiatives. The organization emphasizes the importance of collaboration, engaging both men and women in discussions and initiatives to foster shared responsibility in gender equality efforts.
Key components of N4ED’s approach include:
Intensive Training to couples: N4ED provides in-depth training covering critical topics such as household decision-making through effective communication and shared responsibility, respectfulness in relationships, and all forms of violence, including physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse. The importance of consent, even within marriage, is emphasized, along with parenting strategies for both girls and boys.
Awareness and Education: N4ED addresses various forms of GBV, including harmful traditional practices (HTPs), by working with directly with teenagers and adults in the community. Partnerships with schools and relevant public institutions help broaden the reach of awareness campaigns aimed at decreasing GBV incidents and encouraging the denunciation of such acts.
Community Engagement: Through grassroots education, delivered directly or via trained community volunteers, N4ED aims to foster broad societal change that promotes safety, respect, and equality. Awareness efforts target all segments of society, including adolescents, women, and men, and ensure wide dissemination of information on how to access support services when facing GBV.
GBV Response: N4ED integrates provides direct case management services and integrates into existing systems while enhancing survivor-centered approach. Stakeholder engagement is critical to ensure timely and effective responses from health, legal, and psychosocial services. We collaborate with public and private institutions, including women and social affairs offices, One Stop centers, police, and shelters, to provide comprehensive support for GBV survivors.
N4ED plays a crucial role in promoting survivor-centered services by collaborating with the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs and the GBV Area of Responsibility (AoR). This includes piloting the operation of the National Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Prevention and Response of GBV.
Through these initiatives, N4ED strives to create a safer and more equitable society, reducing instances of GBV and fostering an environment where all individuals are respected and supported.
