Nutrition and Women Empowerment Project in Akaki Kaliti & Kolfe Keranyo

Project Overview and Objectives

Implemented from May 2019, this 2.5-year project aimed to empower families in Akaki Kaliti and Kolfe Keranyo through nutrition, gender, and economic initiatives. It worked to improve child nutrition and parental practices, and supported women’s economic independence.

Target Audience / Beneficiaries

Directly impacted 120 individuals (mothers, fathers, and newborns) and indirectly reached other household and community members.

Methodology / Approach

Parents participated in workshops on health, nutrition, and gender equality. Mothers engaged in income-generating activities supported by revolving funds, savings, and business training. Urban gardening was introduced to support household nutrition.

Impact / Expected Outcomes

Improved family nutrition practices, increased maternal income and self-confidence, and enhanced community awareness around child care and gender equity.
